NHIS medicines list Effective March(2011)
The National health Insurance Authority has, in collaboration with key stakeholders, updated the NHIS medicines list with the aim of improving the quality of health care in the country.
The revised list which takes effect from March 1, 2011 contains 552 medicines. Significant additions to the list include Arthemeter Injection for the treatment of complicated /severe malaria, zinc tablet for the treatment of diarrhoea and Sulfadoxine + Pyrimethamine tablet for prevention of malaria infection during pregnancy.
This is aimed at boosting Ghana’s efforts at achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5, namely reduction in child mortality and improvement of maternal health, respectively.
