Accreditation of Health Care Facility

Can Professional Health workers in an accrediting stage Health Care Facility acquire accreditation?

a.      Every health professional working in a health care facility that seeks

b.      accreditation shall;

c.       Provide a License by the appropriate regulatory body of the profession to operate the relevant profession in the country

d.      Provide evidence to confirm the member’s is of good standing of the relevant national association of the profession.

e.      Be prepared to abide by the Code of Ethics of the profession Be prepared to observe the practice guidelines or protocols, peer review and payment mechanisms of the scheme

The verification of these requirements may be ascertained through:

a.      Inspection of Facilities Seeking and relying on information from relevant Regulatory Bodies and such other institutions as the council considers appropriate.

b.      Inspection of facility and verification of the requirements and authenticity of documents submitted shall be done within fourteen (14) days after receipt of the application.

c.       Verification and inspection report should be submitted to council within sixty days of receipt of application

When will Certificate of Accreditation be issued?

·         If the requirements for accreditation are in order and applicant has shown proof of payment of accreditation fees, accreditation will be granted by issuing to the applicant a Certificate of Accreditation, indicating period of duration of Certificate.

What are the obligations and Responsibilities of the NHIS and Accredited Healthcare Facility are be found?

·         A Brochure indicating Obligations of the National Health Insurance Council and the Responsibilities of the Accredited Healthcare Facility will be added to your Certificate of Accreditation when you are issued one.

Where do I display my Certificate of Accreditation?

·         The Accreditation Certificate is to be displayed in a prominent and conspicuous place of the Health Care Facility at its office or place of practice.

·         The license must be visible to all members and the general public.

·         A Sign in a prominent and conspicuous manner to the effect that the facility is accredited by the council. The SIGN shall be placed outside the facility and next to the facility’s name.

What will account for the denial of Accreditation of a Health Care Facility?

·         Non-compliance with any of the requirements and conditions of accreditation

·         Revocation, non-renewal or non-issuance of license to operate or practice as a health care facility by the relevant regulatory authority.

·         Fraud

o        Change in the ownership of a health care facility for the purposes of evading the consequences of impropriety or violations of requirement or conditions previously committed.

o        Non-compliance with any safeguards provided under the Act or Regulations

o        Such other grounds as the council may determine which shall be published
