A high-powered delegation from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) led by the new Chief Executive, Hon. Bernard Okoe-Boye paid a courtesy call on the King of Ga Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.
The working visit on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, to the King’s private residence, formed part of the new Chief Executive’s Greater Accra Regional tour.
Hon.Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye explained that the delegation was there to pay homage and inform the King about his new role.
With a firm pledge to make President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo proud, the former Deputy Health Minister submitted himself to the King for guidance and counseling.
He promised to form a synergy with all critical holders especially, traditional, and religious leaders to make the National Health Insurance (NHIS) blossom and reminded all NHIS members to use the Mobile Renewal service dedicated short code *929# for their membership renewals.
He said the NHIS Benefit Package has been expanded to include the four commonest childhood cancers and some family planning services and will be fully rolled out by next month.
He was optimistic that by the end of the year 2024, there would be no manual submission of Claims by the NHIA’s credentialled health service providers.
His Royal Majesty Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II congratulated President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo for appointing a son of the Ga land to be the top boss of the NHIA and urged Dr. Okoe Boye to do exceedingly well for the beneficiaries of the Scheme. He pledged to galvanize the support of all Chiefs under his jurisdiction to be advocates of the NHIS and promote its growth.
He encouraged executive management to intensify publicity on the Mobile Renewal service dedicated short code *929#. The NHIA Governing Board Chair, Dr. Ernest K. P Kwarko thanked the Ga King for the warm-hearted reception and announced that the year 2021 will be the NHIS 20th Anniversary.
The delegation comprised a Board member, Madam Joyce Konokie Zempare, Deputy Chief Executive, Human Resource/Administration, Yaa Pokuaa Baiden (Mrs.), and Deputy Chief Executive Finance, Francis Owusu (Mr.) Director, Membership and Regional Operations, Ben Kusi (Mr.), Head of Management Information Systems, Daniel Blankson (Mr.), Head of Corporate Affairs, Oswald Essuah-Mensah (Mr.), and the NHIA Greater Accra Regional Director, Bernard Brown (Mr.) were part of the delegation.
As a medical practitioner, the young and energetic, Hon. Dr. Okoe-Boye took over on May 3, 2022, and comes with vast experience in healthcare delivery. From the Greater Accra Region, the team will proceed to other regions in phase one of the tours.
