Launch of Health and Wellness Hub in Ashanti Region | 12/4/2024

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) took a significant step in promoting health and wellness by launching a Health and Wellness Hub in Kumasi. The initiative, jointly organized by the Ashanti Regional Office and the Claims Processing Centre (CPC) in Kumasi, seeks to foster healthier lifestyles and support preventive healthcare for NHIA staff and Ghanaians as a whole.

 

The event, held at the Kokoase AstroTurf Park in Bantama on Friday, 29th November 2024, began with a symbolic health walk led by the NHIA Chief Executive and some Directors. The walk started from the NHIA Regional Office in Adum, with staff and participants enthusiastically making their way to the park, emphasizing the importance of physical activity in maintaining good health.

 

Speaking at the launch, the NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, highlighted the Authority's commitment to ensuring not only access to healthcare but also the promotion of preventive measures to reduce the burden of diseases. “The Health and Wellness Hub reflects our broader vision of a healthy Ghana, where citizens are empowered to take charge of their well-being,” he stated.

 

He reiterated the start of free dialysis care on the 1st of December, which is purposed to bring financial relief to thousands of patients across the country interventions introduced to enhance staff welfare.

 

In his remarks, the Ashanti Regional Director, Mr. Kwadwo Dwomoh, thanked staff for a massive turnout and encouraged fitness to be inculcated in staff's everyday lives. He also thanked Executive Management for creating the platform for a great initiative. The event featured a 5-kilometer walk, free health screenings, fitness sessions, and an interactive presentation delivered by clinicians from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

 

It was designed to educate staff and the public on healthy living. Participants were also encouraged to use the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for routine health checks and medical services.

 

The Health and Wellness Hub initiative is expected to be replicated across the country as part of NHIA's broader efforts to promote wellness and reduce healthcare costs by focusing on prevention.This launch underscores NHIA's dedication to creating a healthier nation, aligning with its mission to provide equitable and sustainable access to healthcare for all Ghanaians.
