UK NHS CONSORTIUM TEAM TO COLLABORATE WITH GHANA HEALTH INSTITUTIONS  | 7/15/2024

A team from the UK NHS Consortium for Global Health is on a working visit to Ghana to collaborate with Health Institutions in Ghana following a maiden visit to the UK last year by a Ghana Team.

Peer-to-peer partnerships between NHS UK and Ghanaian health institutions aims to  significantly contribute to the achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Ghana through sharing expertise, resources, and best practices.

Such collaborations will enhance healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and strengthen health systems in both countries. Key areas of the discussion centered on the scaling up of the Network of Practice (NOP) in Ghana, Strengthening the primary care system, data and data analytics, Strategic purchasing, enhancing patient/member experience and health system financing as well as scaling up Promotive and Preventive health interventions through the Annual Health Check concept being championed by the NHIA together with MOH, GHS, CHAG and the Private Sector.

The meeting also agreed to explore training programs for healthcare professionals in Ghana to improve their skills and knowledge, sharing technological advancements and innovative healthcare solutions that can be adapted to the local context in Ghana. Other considerations were assisting in the development of policies and governance structures that support efficient and effective healthcare delivery.

Such partnerships are essential for strengthening global health systems and ensuring that everyone has access to quality healthcare services. The Minister of Health, Hon. Bernard Okoe-Boye, Directors from MOH, and the NHIA were present at the meeting.

The Minister reassured the NHS UK team that his ministry was fully ready and committed to supporting all the plans that this partnership will evolve into. This engagement was facilitated by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in Ghana.
