University of Ghana School of Pharmacy Holds Third White Coat Ceremony | 2/12/2025

The University of Ghana School of Pharmacy has celebrated its third White Coat Ceremony, typifying, the transition of pharmacy students from their pre-clinical years to clinical orientation.The event dubbed, “Prescription for Change: Reimagining Healthcare,” was held at the Great Hall, on the University of Ghana, main campus in Accra.

 

From the National Health Insurance Authority, the keynote Speaker, Dr. Ruby Aileen Mensah Annan (Mrs), shared her personal motivation for pursuing healthcare financing and encouraged the students to be advocates for healthcare equality and affordability.As the NHIA Director in charge of the Strategic Health Purchasing Directorate, Dr. Ruby Annan said Pharmacists should work as cohesive nation builders to improve Ghana’s healthcare system.

 

The College of Health Sciences, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Alfred Edwin Yawson urged the students to be innovative and adaptable during their clinical training.He said Pharmacists responsibility is serving as a link between Doctors and patients, ensuring effective communication and quality healthcare delivery.

 

The Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Professor, Isaac Julius Asiedu-Gyekye, stated, “The white coat symbolizes professionalism, integrity, ethics, and commitment to patient care.”He advised the students and practicing Pharmacists, emphasizing, “Never stop learning, never stop growing, and never lose sight of the patient at the center of all that you do.”The annual White Coat Ceremony serves as a reminder of pharmacy students responsibility to provide ethical and patient-centered care as they transition to the clinical phase of their training.
